Is Your Heater Ready for the Cold?

Is Your Heater Ready for the Cold?

In Oklahoma we get the best of both worlds. Hot highs in the Summer and Cold Lows in the Winter. We recommend doing an AC System Check at the beginning of each Summer and a Heater Check before Winter hits. No one wants to get stuck on a cold day with no Heater in their Car. First and foremost, it is way more difficult to keep those windows from frosting up with no defrost. Secondly, it is no fun setting in a Cold car on your way to work.  The first step in any Heater system check is to make sure the Coolant in your vehicle is at the correct level and in good condition.  Coolant is the main fluid used to heat your Heater Core. Air Blows over the Heater Core before blowing into the vehicle. This is how the air is heated. If your Coolant is low if may not fill the Heater Core Properly. This can cause the Heater to blow cool air instead of Hot.

Next, we make sure all of your HVAC doors and actuators are operating normally. Inside of your dash there is a series of doors. One of the most important is your temp control door. This opens and closes the pathways from either the Heater Core or Evaporator. This is how the Temperature is controlled. There is another set of doors that control where the Air blows.  If one of these doors is stuck or if an actuator fails the system can blow the wrong temp or out of the wrong vents. It is not helpful to have heat blowing at the floor is all you need is to Defrost your windshield.

Checking blower operation is the next step to the Heater Check. Your Blower Motor is the main fan that Blows the air into the vehicle. If this is not operating or operating on only one speed, It needs to be repaired.
