Nobody wants a car that Makes Noise when it isn’t supposed to. On of the most common car noise issues is the Squealing Brakes. We have all heard it before. Someone pulls up next to you at a light and EEEEEEEIIIIIIIIKKKKKKK! No one want to drive that car. The good news is that Squeaking Brakes are easily avoided and repaired. Your Brakes are one of the most important Safety Features on you Vehicle. If they do start making noise it is important to have them checked as soon as possible. There are a few different reasons that you may hear a squeaking when braking.

We find that the most common cause for Squeaky Brakes is that the brake pads are worn too thin. Most brake pads a wear indicator or Squealer. This is a small piece of metal that touches the Brake Rotor when the Brake Pads are worn below their useable life. For this the repair is simple. New Brake Pads and Rotors will stop the Squeal. Below is a picture of the Wear Indicator or Squealer on a brake pad. Once the Brake Pad Wears down enough the Wear Indicator will touch the rotor and begin to squeal.

Next we find that Excessive Brake Dust can cause a Squeak, Especially in Drum Brakes. As your Drum Brake Shoes wear down most of that dust stays inside the drum. This excessive Brake Dust can cause the rear brakes to Squeak and Squeal. Sometimes the rear brakes can just be Cleaned and Adjusted. This is also a fairly simple and Inexpensive. Below is a set of rear drum brakes before and after service.

Lastly, we find that Cheap Brake Parts or improperly installed parts can cause the Brakes to Squeak. At Priebe’s Auto Clinic and Tire Center we put safety first.
